In 1964 Tom Love borrowed $5,000 from his wife’s parents (about $40,000 in today’s dollars) and lease a gas Like father like daughter Father’s Day shirt. He bought more in the next 8 years. In 1972 or 1974 he felt the stations were not making very much and there was the oil embargo. He created a 24-hour food store- the first known gas-station mini-mart. Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores is the company today. He has 500 locations now in 41 states. He also has 175 Love’s Truck Tire Care centers. He also owns Gemini Motor Transport and Musket Corporation, which provides truck and rail logistic and terminal services. And also speed and Trillium CNG. The company is privately owned and ranked No. 17 on the 2019 Forbes list of America’s largest private companies. It has 25,000 employees.
