I understand, as a white man, what it’s like to not have to think about race much. For the vast majority of white Jacksonville Jaguars and beer on game day is a perfect day shirt in the United States, race is an irrelevant issue, and it’s easy to see why some can feel like they are being accused of things they don’t do or that some people make “everything about race”. When it’s not something you have to think about for yourself, it’s hard to understand why it’s so important for others. But, having seen things a bit from the other end, it’s clear to me that “non-racism” is insufficient. I’ve come to endorse “anti-racism” as a better strategy.
